{"id":515,"date":"2018-12-04T21:29:12","date_gmt":"2018-12-05T02:29:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nyhanmaum.org\/EM\/?p=515"},"modified":"2018-12-04T21:44:46","modified_gmt":"2018-12-05T02:44:46","slug":"as-much-as-humanly-possible","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/nyhanmaum.org\/EM\/as-much-as-humanly-possible\/","title":{"rendered":"As Much as Humanly Possible"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>\u201c<\/em><em>So he said to me, &#8220;This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: &#8216;Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,&#8217; says the LORD Almighty.\u201d (Zechariah 4:6 NIV)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201c<\/em><em>This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit.\u201d (1 John 4:13 NIV)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201c<\/em><em>for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.\u201d (2 Timothy 1:7 ESV)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I once mentioned to a person that it is pretty much impossible for us to fulfill the command to love (Matthew 22:34-40). In fact, there\u2019s nothing we can do by ourselves. His response was that he will do those things \u201cas much as humanly possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The problem with that type of thinking is \u2013 it\u2019s just like what the Pharisees tried to do. They were careful to obey God\u2019s laws, but neglected the more important matters, such loving their neighbor (Matthew 23:23; Luke 11:42).<\/p>\n<p>This doesn\u2019t mean that the laws were useless. God\u2019s purposes for the laws were to show His holiness and how far we fall from obtaining it.<\/p>\n<p>He had forgotten that faith itself is also a gift from God \u2013 nothing we have ever accomplished comes from ourselves (Ephesians 2:8; Isaiah 26:12).<\/p>\n<p>Give credit to whom credit is due!<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s 2019 soon.
